  • Adoptable dog at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter

Santa Monica Animal Shelter. This one is a really sad story waiting for a fairytale ending. Tito was found on the street one day, and the person who found him assumed he was run over. Animal Control brought this dying dog to the hospital, and after running some tests it was found that he didn't have any broken bones, but was dying from a poisoning. The theory is that he ate some snail bait (or similar) and collapsed in the middle of the road. After a month of rehabilitation at the hospital, he's available for adoption, as happy and energetic as possible. It looks like Tito might have some bite marks on the top of his head, and he has a habit of not closing his mouth completely - which means that the tip of his tongue sometimes sticks out as if he's mocking you. Tito is shy at first, but co...

After a little bit of time getting to know & trust you, she opens up in the cutest, sweetest way possible, always wanting to curl up in your lap for a nap. In this video I sat a short distance away from her, coaxing her to come to me. She desperately wanted to, but was too scared to run out onto the concrete (or maybe she was pretending that the floor was hot lava?). In the end she used her skills as an adorable chihuahua to coax me to come to her instead. She's available for adoption at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter (in California) starting on 3/29/2012. There are also many other dogs, cats, and rabbits, big and small available for adoption immediately. For more photos and video...

Our first day in Los Angeles. We visit the Santa Monica Pier and the Griffith Observatory. ***SUBSCRIBE (If you want...I can't tell you how to live your life)*** Mike's Twitter https://twitter.com/mikekarschti Mike's Instagram https://instagram.com/mikekarschti Periscope: Mike Karschti Snapchat: mikekarschti We started our day by eating some breakfast from the buffet at the Sheraton Agoura Hills hotel. We slept in a bit after a long day exploring Malibu the prior day. After breakfast we check our and made our way to Burbank. We checked into the Hampton Inn & Suites Los Angeles-Burbank Airport. It was pretty nice. We then made our way to the Santa Monica pier for some site seeing. The Santa Monica Pier is a large double-jointed pier located at the foot of Colorado Avenue in Santa Monica, California and is a prominent, 100-year-old landmark. The pier contains Pacific Park, a family amusement park with its one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art, solar-paneled Ferris wheel. (This should not be confused with Pacific Ocean Park, a former amusement park a few miles south of Santa Monica Pier, which operated from 1958 to 1967 and is now demolished.) It also has an original carousel hippodrome from the 1920s, the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium operated by Heal the Bay, shops, entertainers, a video arcade, a trapeze school, pubs, and restaurants. The west end of the pier is a popular location for anglers. We had some Mexican food for lunch at Mariasol at the end of the pier. I had the steak, shrimp and chicken fajitas and Nicole had enchiladas. It was quite tasty. It started to rain so we took shelter at the Santa Monica Place mall. We even checked out the Disney store there. And then we got stuck in LA traffic for over an hour... But making it to Griffith Observatory made it all worth it. The sunset up there was beautiful. Griffith Observatory is a facility in Los Angeles, California sitting on the south-facing slope of Mount Hollywood in Los Angeles' Griffith Park. It commands a view of the Los Angeles Basin, including Downtown Los Angeles to the southeast, Hollywood to the south, and the Pacific Ocean to the southwest. The observatory is a popular tourist attraction with an extensive array of space and science-related displays. Since the observatory opened in 1935, admission has been free, in accordance with Griffith's will. The exhibits were really cool. I liked the Tesla Coil. We could have spent more time in there but we were pretty tired and hungry so we hit up In-N-Out Burger. We then made our way back to the hotel and bed. We had another big day ahead of us touring Hollywood, taking a TMZ bus tour and going to a Dr. Drew show at the Hollywood Improv. Thanks for watching! Subscribe if you want to see the next day! Jindo/Husky mix, ID#A047540, another No-Name girl, has been at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter (Santa Monica, CA) since Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014. She's between 1 and 2 yrs. old, about 30 lbs. and her left eye is blue. She's mostly Jindo in behavior and body but that one blue eye reveals her Husky genes. She's sweet, shy and still somewhat fearful about being leashed (may have something got to do with how she was snagged when captured in the field) or having hands waved over her head or over her back. She was picked up as a stray but since no dog is born with a nice red halter it's clear someone was taking care of her. She has no tags or microchip. It took about 20 minutes today (Monday) -- only 48 hrs. after being captured and incarcerated in the shelter -- to finally accept being leashed without serious backing into a corner. On Sunday she wouldn't take treats but today she was eager for them yet took them so, so gently from my hand. As she began to feel less fearful about me, she licked my hand and arm several times. She also let me give her a gentle chest rub. She has been howling a bit since Saturday. She's a sweet little girl who would probably adapt well to a home setting; she's somewhat clean so wasn't in the streets very long. I took walked her a bit today and she's ok on leash; I didn't ask too much of her since she's still stressed -- although her tail did come out once she was allowed to walk outside her kennel. She is a slow go for being leashed. We'll see if that fear subsides when she realizes the human with the leash means she gets to go for a walk. She was picked up and placed on the vet's table for exam today and it went well even though she was considered a "nipper" by the officer who captured her and brought her in. The video was taken Monday (11/17/14). http://petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=SNMN.A047540

When he is tired out, he will quietly retire to his crate for some R&R. Pirate is young and energetic, and would do best with an active family that will take him hiking and give him lots of opportunities to enjoy his favorite pastime… swimming! Pirate is healthy with no known health issues and is current on all vaccinations. Jackie was adopted in late September! Congratulations to her new owner. More info @ Jackie's petfinder page: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/17066373 Jackie gets her name from her amazing acrobatics, she's just like Jackie Chan! She loves to prowl around the tops of doors. Watching her leap up is really incredible she looks like she can fly. Her coloring is also unique. She has a beautiful silky coat with plenty of white and pretty tortie markings. Even though she can easily get up and away from the crowd, she does like to visit with you and see what's going on. She sometimes likes to curl up beside you or with another cat buddy. She's a talkative girl and will let you know when she needs some attention. Jackie is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered. Gunner found an excellent home with a firefighter in mid-September! Congratulations to them both! More info @ Gunner's petfinder page: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16779252 Gunner is available for adoption from Santa Monica Animal Services in Santa Monica, California (posted August 4, 2010). Gunner is a beautiful boxer mix. He only about a year old. Gunner is extremely athletic and would be a wonderful companion for someone with an active lifestyle. However, he does have some issues that will require a firm owner to keep him in check so he would only be appropriate for people with experience working with strong-willed dogs. That all sounds kind of scary, but basically he has some challenges with toys and keeping his attention focused on his owner rather than distractions around him. He's obviously very sweet and playful. The right owner can make him into a wonderful companion. Gunner is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered. Tito is shy at first, but completely opens up after a little introduction. He's available for adoption immediately. http://www.petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=SNMN.A038918

3/27/2012: This tiny 4lb chihuahua is extremely shy and very scared of her new situation as a homeless dog. For more photos and videos of this tiny chihuahua, you can read her blog entry here: http://blog.happysix.com/2012/03/27/tiny-adoptable-chihuahua/
